Failure Analysis for an Individual Property of a Component or Process

The fundamental element of FMEA is the analysis of a single property of an individual component of a product or process.

The failure analysis of an individual property of a component or process forms the result of the entire FMEA analysis.

Initial Information for Failure Analysis

Structural analysis, i.e., Step 2 of FMEA, breaks down the process or product into subcomponents. This decomposition can have multiple levels (tree structure):
Tree structure of the process

Functional analysis, i.e., Step 3 of FMEA, identifies the properties of these fundamental subcomponents.

Failure Analysis of a Property

Failure Analysis in AyMINE - list

For each property (/ function / operating mode), it is necessary to describe what could cause its failure. For each cause of failure:

  • Describe what kind of failure occurs.
  • Consider what consequences the failure may cause.
  • Assess:
    • S: Severity – What impact it will have on the user.
    • O: Occurrence – How likely the problematic situation is to occur.
    • D: Detection – How easy it is to detect the issue.
  • Propose measures to reduce the overall risk.

In the property details under the "Failure Analysis" tab, individual failure scenarios and their D, O, S evaluations corresponding to the current state are entered:

Similarly, proposed measures and their corresponding D, O, S values are recorded.
The system calculates the action priority level (AP) and additionally the RPN, as defined in earlier versions.

Note: When entering S, O, P values, it is necessary to specify the type of analysis, as the definitions of these variables depend on whether it is DFMEA, PFMEA, or FMEA-MSR.

Simplified Analysis Entry

AyMINE allows a simplified failure analysis entry if the given property (/ function / operating mode) has only one possible failure mode. The analysis can be recorded directly within the property:
On the "Basic Data" tab, you can enter S, O, D, and conduct further analysis under the "Analysis" tab.
If you later decide to create separate failure records, you can use the "Convert to Failure Items" button to generate an entry under the "Failure Analysis" tab.
